Workshops on ‘Development of Volunteers’ & ‘Effective utilization of Volunteer’ is one of the focus areas of Joining Hands (JH). Organized on the 20th of December 2011, the workshop was facilitated as one of JH yearly activities for the FY 2011 -12.
The workshop was divided into three modules covering aspects of: understanding volunteers and volunteer needs in an NGO, the volunteer management cycle and how to prepare a performance plan for the volunteers and importance of volunteer coordinators.
During the workshop, Shourya, a JH volunteer shared his experience at a NGO home in Mayur Vihar and Santosh who is coordinating a NGO center where JH volunteers are placed, shared his experience about motivating, encouraging and involving volunteers in the activites of the NGO. The workshop was made interactive with activities, games, video presentation and a case study.
Amongst other tips, participants were encouraged to regularly update their ‘volunteer need’ database, so that they could reach out to and utilize volunteers according to the need in the organization. They were also encouraged to make a plan for each volunteer, regularly monitor them , encourage them with timely feedback and conduct an impact assessment of the volunteers work.
The participants shared the benefits they had gained from the workshop and expressed their interest in attending similar workshops organized by JH in the future. |
