As a non profit organization concerned with social change, Joining Hands is committed to making your travel in India a meaningful and memorable one. That is why Joining Hands has introduced the new and upcoming concept of VolunTourism in its programs.
In the past few years, sustainability has gained more and more attention in general life, and also in the tourism sector. Many travelers are starting to discover the concept of sustainable tourism and feel the need to maximize their stay abroad and make it a meaningful one. The answer to this growing need is VolunTourism, combining as it does vacational travel with volunteering at the destination visited. It integrates the best of tourism – culture, nature, art and recreation - with the opportunity to serve and enhance the destination – its people and its milieu.
Joining Hands for Voluntourism
As an individual you gain interesting experiences that you would cherish for the rest of your life. As a group, you will go through life changing experiences together, that you will never forget. VolunTourism provides people from all over the world with opportunities to visit or to work in our partnering NGOs in India. Some quotes from our first VolunTourists
In April 2009, Joining Hands was happy to receive its first VolunTourists. Some people from America who were in a competition called ‘Global Scavengers Hunt’ were to volunteer for some time in an NGO and chose to do this through Joining Hands. It was a wonderful experience. Not only for Joining Hands and for our VolunTourists, but also for the children in our partnering NGO.
We were sent to a school in basically the slum area of Delhi. We had students there from ages 3-16. We helped out with the English studies class for the older students. We also bought 75 toothbrushes for the students and I gave them a demonstration on brushing their teeth and told them how important it was to do it twice a day. The little ones sang songs for us. Read us their essays and just had as much fun I think, as we did.
